About The PVFD
The Piercy Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1946. Charlie Kirk was our first chief, and served for thirty seven years. Since his retirement, Alan Ebert, Martha Ross, Bob Porter and Bob Kirk have all served as chiefs. Our current Chief is Tim Kloifer.
In 1964 Mendocino County chartered the Piercy Fire Protection District. Our volunteer firefighters are now the first emergency response team dispatched to the Hwy 101 corridor from Lower Benbow Drive in Humboldt County to Bridges Creek in Mendocino County. We have mutual response agreements with the departments in Garberville, Leggett, Laytonville and Cal Fire, and have assisted or been first on scene as far away as Usal Beach State Park.
At these calls we are prepared for and have performed over the bank rescue, extractions, containment of toxic spills, helicopter transport to trauma centers and even white water rescue. In 2006 we responded to 63 calls; 15 were fires, 16 were medical emergencies (8 from non-residents) and 32 were highway vehicle accidents. In 2007 we answered 59 calls; 9 fires, 11 medical, and 39 vehicle accidents.
Our annual budget for insurance, maintenance, fuel, training and supplies runs nearly $40,000. County, state and federal funds supply about $10,000. The rest comes from donations, grants and funds from special events. We are a modern bake-sale fire department with 8 fully trained responders, two pumpers, a quick response truck and an emergency equipment vehicle. We welcome any contribution to our effort to provide for the emergency needs of residents and guests in our district.
