2008 Benefit and Poker Run
The 2008 Charlie Kirk Memorial Run to the Coast
On behalf of the Piercy community, it is my pleasure to announce the 4th Annual Piercy VFD Benefit Poker Run & Rally. This event provides our Volunteer Fire Protection District with much needed monetary support, and all proceeds benefit the department. This year the venue site has changed and the event will be hosted by the staff at the Peg House, located two miles north of Leggett on Hwy. 101. Breakfast will be served starting around 8:00, followed by sign-ins. The poker run will get going at 11:00 and follow the same loop as years past. The ride takes us down 101 to ‘Boomers’ in Laytonville for our first stop, and a card draw. From there, it's on to Willits, where a certain portion of the pack might stop off at the JP Club! Then it's out Hwy. 20, stopping at Chandalier State Park for another card. The state keeps this road in good shape and despite an occasional peg rub, it’s a great little ride past vineyards and redwood forests. A twenty degree drop in temperature greets your arrival at Hwy. 1 and Noyo Harbor. Some folks bail our here for a bite to eat and a little sight-seeing. Among the many shops in Ft. Bragg, a must see is the Tattoo Museum at Triangle Tattoo on Main Street. A short distance up the coast we reach Westport and Pidgeon Point State Part for another card. From there, Hwy. 1 runs out of land and you head inland toward Leggett. This stretch is also a bit twisty but pot hole free, and the Redwoods keep the rider in cool afternoon shade. Altogether, you have a ride loaded with variety that will take about four hours at a leisurely pace. We have had members of the sportbike sect make it in half that time, and we do welcome all bikes.
Back at the Peg House, barbeque tri-tip dinner will be offered to all poker fun riders, served up by the professional Peg House staff. We will be holding a ‘ride & shine’ Bike Show, biker games, 50/50, raffle prizes, monster truck exhibit and more. On stage at 5:00 pm we will be featuring the Tommy Castro Band. If these guys don’t get you on your feet, you might want to check for a pulse! This year, we are also offering overnight camping. These single and group sites are directly across the road, and feature tables, grills, bathrooms and hot showers. Camping reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 1-800-444-7275 and mention the Piercy VFD Benefit. Stop on by and celebrate the first day of summer with us and donate to a worthy cause in the process.
Thanks, ‘Jeam’, Piercy VFD
